Abstract

Aim. The empirical study aimed to determine the relationship between employee work addiction and the assessment of romantic relationships.
Methods. The study involved 215 employees (74% women, 26% men). Work addiction was measured using the Bergen Work Addiction Scale (BWAS) [1]. The assessment of romantic relationships was conducted using the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS) [2]. Additionally, data were collected on sociodemographic characteristics. Statistical tests included Student’s t-test, ANOVA, and correlation analysis.
Results. It was found that engaged individuals evaluate their romantic relationships most favorably, whereas married individuals evaluate them least favorably. Individuals who live with their partner evaluate their romantic relationships more favorably compared to those who live separately. Finally, a statistically significant association was found between work addiction and poor evaluation of romantic relationships. This association remains significant after controlling for sociodemographic variables.
Conclusions. The study confirmed that work addiction is associated with harm at the interpersonal level. The results obtained contribute to the scientific literature on this topic and provide evidence-based insights that demonstrate the importance of prevention and intervention regarding work addiction. The findings may be useful for individuals experiencing work addiction, healthcare professionals, and organizational representatives concerned with employee well-being.
