The reorganization of the Institute of Hygiene, which took effect on July 1, 2025, marked a new stage in the institution’s development and represented far more than a structural change. It was a strategic transformation aimed at building a sustainable, evidence-based, and innovative public health system capable of addressing evolving challenges. The new structure consolidated existing functions, optimized workflows, and strengthened the Institute’s capacities in key areas, including data analytics, innovation, legal and human resource management, and training quality. The reorganization also included the transformation of the Occupational Health Center into the Occupational and Environmental Health Center, expanding its scope and strengthening the prevention of environmental risk factors.
Another key achievement was the establishment of the Public Health Innovation Center, which brought together research, innovation, patient safety, and health promotion under one framework. The introduction of new data analyst and data scientist positions enhanced evidence-based decision-making and supported the development of health policies grounded in high-quality, timely data. The implementation of advanced digital tools, such as data visualization platforms and AI-based solutions, enabled faster policy impact assessments and improved communication with decision-makers.
Collaboration remained a cornerstone of the Institute’s mission. By strengthening partnerships with municipalities, public health bureaus, and academic institutions, the Institute provided methodological support, strategic insights, and evidence-based recommendations that informed public health policy and practice. Additionally, the plan to launch an annual public health conference aims to foster dialogue and collaboration across sectors.
Ultimately, the reorganization was an investment in the future. It transformed the Institute of Hygiene into a leading center of expertise and analysis, capable of shaping public health policy and contributing to a healthier Lithuania. By consolidating functions, enhancing analytical capacities, and fostering innovation, the Institute is now positioned not only to respond to emerging health challenges but also to play an active role in shaping the future of public health.
